Established in 2015, the National Medical Schools’ Widening Participation Forum (NMSWP) is a UK-wide initiative dedicated to promoting equity in access to medical education.
We aim to:
- Support students not just into medicine, but through it—helping them progress and thrive
- Develop collaborative work across widening participation (WP) teams in UK medical schools
- Champion the inclusion of students from underrepresented and WP backgrounds
The Student Working Group
The National Student Working Group was created in 2017 to provide a collective student voice within the world of widening participation. This group is a subcommittee of the National Medical Schools’ WP Forum.
With the support of the National Forum and the Medical Schools Council, the student group aids in new program developments, research opportunities and supports outreach activities within medical schools.
The group is composed of dedicated medical students experienced in the world of WP with the passion to make a collective difference alongside their usual studies. In 2020, the Working Group evolved into a committee with nominated roles to spearhead the group’s key activities and goals which include the organisation of the annual conference as well as lobbying action to promote positive change.
